Stem of Geum in primary state of growth

The stem of avens (Geum canadense) in a primary state of growth. Shown are vascular bundles prior to the initiation of vascular cambium. Note how the cortical ground tissue is modified for support. The stem cross-section shows perivascular fibers grading into sclerified parenchyma cells. Try to identify primary phloem and primary xylem, cortex and pith.
